STRAIGHT ANSWERS

QUESTIONS

Twelve questions we hear on the desk. If yours is not here, write or call; the form on the contact page reaches the same people who run the floor.

GETTING STARTED

I've never lifted. Am I going to be the only beginner?

No. A large share of new members at Fitbodyjourney are starting a barbell programme for the first time, or returning after a long gap. Foundations Strength is written for that group, and coached sessions are capped at eight so the floor never turns into a crowd watching one person struggle. Your trial includes a movement screen. We use that to pick starting loads you can actually repeat, not a demonstration weight. You will share racks with people who lift more than you. You will not be asked to keep up with them. The coach is there to run your session, not a performance.

What should I bring to the trial?

Flat-soled shoes if you have them, training clothes you can squat and hinge in, a water bottle, and a towel. If you use a lifting belt or sleeves already, bring them; we will not require them on day one. If you have notes from a physiotherapist, bring those too so we can read the constraints rather than guess. The trial is fifty minutes. You will talk through your week, move through a short screen, and leave with a clear next step on membership. Showers and lockers are on the same floor, so you can go on to work afterwards.

Can I come at 06:00 before work and shower here?

Yes. Weekday opening is 06:00, and the first coached sessions start on the hour. Changing rooms, lockers, and showers sit next to the floor. Last entry is forty-five minutes before close, which on weekdays is 20:45. If you need to be at a desk in the CBD or along Orchard by 08:00, say so in the trial. We will write a session that finishes with enough time to shower and walk to Dhoby Ghaut. Towels are available in the studio; you do not need to bring a bath towel unless you prefer your own.

I'm coming off a physio programme — can you work with that?

Yes, if we have something written to work from. Return-to-Lifting is built around a handover: the exercises you have been cleared to load, the ranges that are still off limits, and the date of your next clinical review. We do not diagnose, and we do not replace your physiotherapist. We take the plan you arrive with, keep the constraints visible in your block, and scale the rest of the session around them. If pain changes in a way that does not match the handover, we stop the lift and ask you to speak to the clinician who is managing the case.

TRAINING

How many people are in a class?

Coached sessions are capped at eight. That is a hard number, not a soft target. It keeps cueing possible on the main lifts and keeps the platforms from stacking. Open Floor members train around the class timetable and can use racks that are not booked for a session. If a class is full, the booking screen offers a waitlist. When someone cancels at least six hours ahead, the first person on the waitlist is promoted automatically. We do not overbook and hope people no-show.

Do you do weight-loss programmes?

We coach strength, conditioning, and the habits that make training repeatable: sleep, protein at meals, walking, and showing up on the days we wrote. Body weight may change as a side effect of consistent training and food. We do not sell fat-loss challenges, before-and-after photographs, or meal plans framed as medical nutrition. If your main goal is clinical weight management, we will say so plainly and point you toward a dietitian. Inside the gym, the programme is still a lifting block with a written review every four weeks.

I train in the evening — is 19:00 packed?

Weekday evenings from 18:00 to 20:30 are our busiest window, which is why classes stay capped at eight and Open Floor has posted peak rules. You will share the room. You will not share a platform with a ninth person. If you need quieter air, the 06:00 and 12:15 sessions are usually calmer, and Saturday morning is the other peak. Tell us your actual finish time at work during the screen. A block that looks perfect on paper and starts while you are still on the train is a poor block.

What happens if I miss a week?

Tell us. A missed week inside a four-week block usually means we repeat a session or trim the next week's volume rather than stacking extra work to 'catch up'. Unused coached sessions on the Coached and Coached Plus plans do not roll into the following month; they are a monthly allocation. If you know you will be away, freeze the membership rather than skip and improvise. After a gap of more than two weeks we re-check starting loads on the main lifts before we push on. The logbook is there so we do not guess.

MEMBERSHIP & ADMIN

Can I freeze my membership while I travel?

Yes. You can freeze up to two months in a calendar year, in blocks of at least one week, with fourteen days' notice in writing or by e-mail to [email protected]. Freeze is meant for travel, work trips, and recovery after a clinician has asked you to stop loading. It is not a pause because a week felt busy. Billing stops for the freeze dates and restarts on the return date we confirm with you. If you need more than two months, we cancel and you can rejoin later without a joining fee; your last block is not kept on file forever.

Do you have parking?

Singapore Shopping Centre has paid parking. We do not validate tickets. Most members walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT, which is about five minutes, or ride a bus that stops along Clemenceau Avenue. There is bike parking at the building. If you drive, give yourself extra time at weekday peak; lift access to the fifth floor is via the building lifts from the lobby. There is no dedicated gym car park bay. Write to us before a trial if you need step-free notes for the route from street to studio.

Can I bring a friend?

Guest passes are an add-on on all plans. Your guest trains Open Floor hours or joins a class only if a space is free and they have signed the same health declaration you did. They do not use your coached-session allocation. If they want a proper start, book them a trial at S$35 instead; that session is credited if they join within thirty days. Pair training is a separate add-on if two members want a shared 1-to-1. Please do not bring children onto the floor. The studio is not a crèche and the platforms are not a waiting area.

Do you sell supplements?

No. Fitbodyjourney does not sell protein powder, creatine, fat burners, or 'recovery' drinks. We will talk about food you can buy at a hawker centre or supermarket, and we will talk about water and electrolytes in humid weather. If you already use a supplement and want to know whether it conflicts with training, ask; we still will not sell you one. When nutrition needs sit outside general sport guidance, we refer you to a dietitian. The member kitchen corner is for food you bring, a kettle, and a water refill, not a shop.

STILL UNSURE?

A short e-mail is better than guessing on a membership. Tell us your hours, your training history, and whether a clinician is already in the picture. We reply within one working day.
